Gemini Goes Green!
Gemini’s GREEN TEAM, a PTO committee of dedicated parents and teachers, is committed to sustainability and practicing the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) throughout the school campus and in our homes. They are implementing a comprehensive plan to promote sustainability in our school community. Please check below for all of the ways your family can participate. If you’re interested in learning more or joining Gemini’s GREEN TEAM, please contact GREEN TEAM co-chairs Patricia and Dean La Gala, or Gemini GREEN TEAM teacher, Mrs. Ruscillo.
The GREEN TEAM coordinates beach clean-ups with such groups as Keep Brevard Beautiful and the the Girl Scouts of America. Check out this Space Coast Parent article to learn more about this initiative, and check the main page of the PTO web site and the PTO’s Facebook page for postings about future clean-ups.
By placing your donations in the textiles recycling bin, our community can reduce waste, help those less fortunate, and raise money to improve environmentally friendly educational practices at Gemini. It’s a triple win!
Gemini has partnered with Suncoast Textile Recycling. Suncoast brokers with worldwide partners in West Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Haiti, Honduras and Mexico to provide their coordinating agencies the much needed clothing, shoes, and linens to help victims of natural disasters and their homeless or disadvantaged populations. Classroom Single Stream Recycling
Our GREEN TEAM has ensured that every Gemini classroom has a bin for recycling. Teachers are encouraging the students to place paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, and plastic and glass bottles into the bins and members of our GREEN TEAM are collecting from the bins every Thursday. This is a recycling effort that every student practices every day and it keeps a tremendous amount of recyclable product out of our landfills. In addition, there is a large bin for paper recyclables in the teacher workroom that teachers and volunteers use regularly.
Ink Toner Cartridge Recycling
Ink toner cartridges are also recycled at Gemini. A receptacle for dropping off used ink toner cartridges is located in the outside foyer area of the school’s front office before you go through the double doors. A school representative regularly takes these to Office Depot and receives credit for future school purchases.
